Ellis Cottage Barn is now ready for use by the Society and will free up the Cottage for use as a display of life in the 1800's

After many years of fundraising, we now have a fantastic Barn at Ellis Cottage.  For years we had applied for grants and funding from the Council and after many broken promises, we bit the bullet and elected to have an old-fashioned-looking modern construction of steel.
The Committee decided that one of our own members should open the Barn.
After all, it was our own members who funded the Barn.
We chose Frank Phipps who has been our Public Officer and Cottage Convenor for years and his dedication to fund raising over the years was a direct result of finally having our Barn built.
The Committee also felt it would like to show our appreciation to some very special people who helped considerably with the construction and erection of the Barn.
A certificate of Appreciation was presented to Dennis Ward, architect, for his guidance and advice on the building, dealing with Council and many other "little" matters that kept cropping up. (cont page 3)

Peter Marriage
for the excavations, Jim Leonard for the foundations, Dave Shanhun for the
concrete slab flooring, Ian Borrie, labourer, Russell Garner for the
cleaning up and leveling out of the site around the Barn and back of the
Cottage and Katrina Rank from the Council.

I would like to add our thanks to Ron Gordon, Frank Phipps, Ian Borrie, Jock
Ryan and Steven Touzel who were on call when needed, to receive goods, open
the Cottage, and generally supervise that things were going accordingly.

Sunday 12th February 2006, was a wonderful day and we celebrated with many
friends and members from the past along with current members.  We had
speeches from our President Ron Gordon and the presentation of certificates,
a Barn blessing by Reverend Jock Ryan and Frank Phipps then spoke of all the
years of wishing and planning a second building at Ellis Cottage.  He cut
the red ribbon and the roller door was raised by members Bruce Wadeson and
Gwen Halliley.  A very yummy afternoon tea was spread out on tables down the
middle of the Barn and was enjoyed by all.
