The Barn at Ellis Cottage has been a project of the Society for the last 10 years or more! How often have you heard Frank P calling for another fund raising programme for the Barn fund. The big day arrived when we finally had a large earth moving machine at Ellis Cottage tearing into the backyard to make it level for the erection of the Barn. The contracts, permits, deposits and contractors willing to work at "mates rates" were all behind us and the Barn was on the ground "in bits" and the earth was being moved! The next challenge was the moving of the "Lock-up", it had to be moved 3 metres toward the Peppercorn tree and with the Rev Jock's instructions to be careful of the contents, the Lock-up was chained up to the bulldozer and it started pulling!
It didn't fall over, apart or any other such disaster and it was moved to its new site without damage.
The day ended and the three Society members thanked Peter Marriage for his contribution of skill, machine and time to make way for the Barn.
I would like to thank Frank, Henry and Peter for their efforts on the day, without their help we wouldn't be moving to the next step!
The next step is foundation pads, thanks to Jim Leonard and then concrete.
More about the raising in the next newsletter.
